Questions worth asking before eye surgery

1. Did the surgeon explain my options in a way I understood, including what happens if I wait or don’t have surgery yet?
2. Do I understand the possible risks, and what would happen if something didn’t go to plan?
3. Did I have enough time to ask my questions, and were they answered?
4. Who will actually do my operation, and who looks after me afterwards?
5. How do I reach the team after surgery, including after hours, if I’m worried?
6. What drops, aftercare and follow-up appointments will I need, and who provides and pays for them?
7. What will it cost me out of pocket, and have I been given that in writing?

Good to know: you can ask your GP or optometrist to refer you to the surgeon you choose. A second opinion is OK too (it needs a new referral).
